I just finished watching All the Small Things. Anyone else see it? A lot of the reviews call it too cutesy and hopelessly middle class, but I have to say that I enjoyed it. My enjoyment has a lot to do with the fact that I am a huge choir geek and want desperately to join Ester's choir.
( A short history of my Choir Geekdom )
I've also been meaning to ask an etiquette question brought on my a Bones episode that aired about a month ago. ( Spoilers for the one with the Bridezilla - I don't know the title. )

I haven't done a meme in a while, so I'm going to resurrect (and by resurrect I mean steal from
jedi_of_urth circa a week ago) one of those ones I always wanted to do back in the day but didn't 'cause there was only two people on my flist and they wouldn't have known a fandom if it bit them on the ass. I'm not saying it's going to be any better today, but I can hope - right? Also, yes I realize the for awhile has been punctuated with long periods of inactivity. What can I say, I'm fickle. Also, having a bit of a crazy watching british television from bittorrent. Feel free to bring the recommendations.
Anyways, here we go:
Name a character from one of my fandoms and I'll give you one or more of the following:
(a) three facts about them from my personal canon/fanon
(b) a reason he/she sucks
(c) a reason he/she is awesomecakes
(d) five things that never happened to that character and/or
(e) five people that character never fell in love with and why

There is a possibility that this 10-day will turn into an 11-day because the client wants the crew chiefs to go to some super special driver training program, which will leave the rest of us without a car to return to New Orleans with. That had better not happen as I pack for a 10-day and do not have enough underware or socks for an 11-day. Also we are losing yet another crew member, so as of next 10-day (or is it the 10-day after?) I will be on a crew of two. I hope they're not expecting us to get too much work done because it's just not going to happen.
I'm getting excited for the new x-files movie coming out this summer. It's funny. I haven't been particularly fannish about the show since it went off the air. I've caught an episode here or there on tv and purchase three of the seasons when I found them cheap. But mostly I forgot about it, despite the fact that it was my very first fandom. Since I stumbled across some of the leaked pictures I've been re-watching the episodes I have (seasons 2, 3, and 7) and re-visiting some old favorite sites. Sites I hadn't been to in eight years or so. Anyway, all this is to say that I'm now super excited.

One of the best things of living in hotels all the time is the HBO. Well that and the not having to make your bed. Anyway, has anyone else been watching the John Adams mini-series?
John Adams is my favorite Founding Father (Yes, I have a favorite founding father. Yes, I am a huge dork) mostly because of the movie 1776. So, I've been watching John Adams and enjoying it, but somewhere in the back of my mind, and to be truthful it's probably more in the front of my mind, I keep expecting the characters to break out in song. Both scripts, and I suppose the book the mini-series is based on, have used John and Abagail's letters extensively, so many of the lines are similar if not identical. Also between using familiar faces in the cast (Detective Tritter is George Washington) and being so used to the actors in 1776 (Thomas Jefferson is not tall enough and looks like he's 19) I keep expecting the characters to do things other than what they do. It is very strange. None the less, I would recommend that anyone who gets the chance watch. Though fair warning disclaimer: the smallpox inoculation is extremely gross.
Also anyone who hasn't seen 1776 really should. I know a musical based on the signing of the Declaration of Independence doesn't sound like it should be very good, but every one I force to watch it loves it. Also, if you really want a treat: during the summer the Independance Mall Visitor's Center does a Rocky Horror like version where you get to boo Dickinson, throw ants at the screen (they're supposed to be flies) and make snoring noises every time Ben Franklin falls asleep. No really it's great.

Nov. 29th, 2007 06:22 pmAs I said in This entry I came late to watching House because of a wonderful show, which like many other wonderful shows was critically acclaimed but with little audience, called Veronica Mars. One of my favorite parts of the VM fandom was the podcast Neptune Pirate Radio. It obviously met its demise with the end of the show it sprang from, but has recently returned as the reinvented My Show is Dead. If you are at all interested in the relationship between fandom and the source it springs from (in this case television) I would suggest checking it out. For instance, in the last episode (the only one available so far) they discussed casting additions to established shows and the hubub this creates among fans. The next one is supposed to be about the "sophomore slump" syndrome. Truely, this is the best put together fan-based podcast I've heard both in terms of content and technical aspects. So, once again check it out if you're interested.

How my job is trying to kill me
Nov. 9th, 2007 10:21 pm One of the pipeline guys came out to the site today to inform us that we are no longer allowed to use the road that leads to the field we are in because it is not in the right-of-way. Instead we have to take our SUV's (which don't have four wheel drive) through the ditch along the side of the main road. At different times, both of the back tires lifted completely off the ground. And I'm talking a foot off the ground. So. Not. Cool. In fact, possibly the most dangerous thing I've ever been told to do. Really just waiting for the entire car to tip over.
On a more fan-girly front, a letter:
Dear Jerry Bruckhiemer,
Forcing me to watch a second of your shows by having continuing story-lines from one to the other is not going to work. You've had your warning. Do it again and I leave completely.
Disappointedly,
Allison
And finally, does anyone else have an unnatural fondness for trashy-romance novellas that have to do with Christmas? No? Just me? Oh well.
