Things I enjoyed
  • Rachel and Finn after "Like a Virgin."  I loved that they both lied about going through with it.  And especially that Rachel lied that she had while Finn lied that he hadn't.
  • Which I guess I should also mention that I really liked the choreography or maybe more importantly the cinematography of "Like a Virgin".  I liked all the cutting from one couple to another and the fact that they were all doing the same things.  Even if it was just in their heads.
  • Loved Kurt and Mercedes getting a solo duet with the cheerios.  As well as their glimpse into hurt!Sue, even if some of it seemed like she was putting them on.
  • Loved the Meta commentary in glee club: "And you always just trot me out to wail on the last note of the song.  That's not okay"  Oh! Mercedes.
  • And finally loved, loved, loved feminist!Quinn.  "Women still make seventy cents to every dollar men make.  That attitude begins in high school."  I particularly love it since Quinn is portrayed generally as a character with rather conservative values.
Things I didn't enjoy so much
  • Mostly this category boils down to the fact that I'm not wild about the increase in musical numbers.  Before, I would have said I was watching the show for the songs, but it turns out I need there to be actual plot connecting those songs.  By the third musical number I was actually annoyed.
  • That medley with Rachel and Finn running around the hallways -- totally not needed, and to my view not particularly well done.  Mostly I was there going "did you really just pull all those books off the shelves in the Library? Don't do that!"
  • I thought the girls hair for the first number was not particularly flattering for the majority of the actresses in the number.  I'm sure it was a Madonna hairstyle they were re-creating but ugh.
  • I've had enough of Jesse's swarminess  and he's only been on for two episodes.
  • Really? They got a full choir to come to their glee club show for back up? Really?

Yes. The cast seems tired. But, I think they are up'ing the music numbers to get more CDs out.I need more plot. I also need the plot to start focusing on the others and less on the same four characters over and over again.

Again, I agree. I'm actually not a fan of it at all. Very much a waste of time.

I hadn't thought of it in terms of the cast looking tired, but you're right, they do.

And yes more focus on the other characters would be great. It would spread the work load around a little bit more, and it wouldn't feel like we were constantly rehashing the same story lines. This episode seemed to make a bit of a start, which I hope they'll continue. The balance of focus won't be complete until we actually know something about Mike and Matt.

Mike and Matt are the two other football players, right? I wasn't fully aware they had names. The issue is - they focus way too much on Rach, Finn, Emma, Quinn, Puck, Terri, and Will. I mean, the first 12 episodes were solely about the two baby storylines. There was a bit with Artie, a storyline with Mercedes and Kurt, but not much. It's sad that recurring characters like Santana and Britney get more screen time and development.

I had the same reaction to Finn's book-dumping. Also unnecessary!

It also really bothers me that Quinn's stomach keeps changing size. But Brittany pretty much slayed me with "when I tore my hamstring, I went to a misogynist."

I'm guessing that everyone with a fondness for libraries had the same reaction to the book dumping.

Yes. The magic stomach. That had my focus for much of "Express Yourself" because she didn't look pregnant at all, and those tops left little to the imagination.

Brittany never gets a bad line. I liked "I think my cat is reading my diary" from the preview.

Yes. Even J was like "that's really cool" I also liked the cut back at the end when you figure out it's all in their heads. Also, "You ran out of my apartment, barefoot." "DId you bring my shoes, they're my favorite?" Oh, Emma. <3

* Loved the Meta commentary in glee club: "And you always just trot me out to wail on the last note of the song. That's not okay" Oh! Mercedes.

Yes.

Also yes. I hope we get to see more of this Quinn, cause she's been kinda annoying for awhile.

I have to agree, although I'm hoping it was just because they made a big deal about it being the "Madonna" episode and they were trying to get in as much Madonna as humanely possible. I think we should have gotten the Like a Virgin bit, Sue's Vogue, maybe half of the first Cheerios number, the pep rally and a really good mashup of more than 2 songs. When Rachel said she had one I was expecting like 5 or 6 songs, not 2 with a cheesy run around the set. Also there were still like 15 minutes left and J asked, is this an extra long one?

* That medley with Rachel and Finn running around the hallways -- totally not needed, and to my view not particularly well done. Mostly I was there going "did you really just pull all those books off the shelves in the Library? Don't do that!"

See above, but also a big me too.

It was. That doesn't make it okay though.

* Really? They got a full choir to come to their glee club show for back up? Really?

Obviously. I mean, why not.

Also, I am getting kinda annoyed with the "This week's assignment is _______. So everyone break into groups and come up with a number" plot device. It was old right after "Don't stand too close to me."

Yes. They were great shoes too.

Also yes. I hope we get to see more of this Quinn, cause she's been kinda annoying for awhile.

I haven't even minded her so far. I'm just glad the sentiment came from (1.) all the girls and (2.) a particularly feminine/traditional one. I always hope that will cut down on the "I'm not a feminist but I think...insert clearly feminist idea"

I have to agree, although I'm hoping it was just because they made a big deal about it being the "Madonna" episode and they were trying to get in as much Madonna as humanely possible. I'm also hoping that, but I did hear that we would consistently get more songs throughout the back nine. I've been trying to decided which numbers I would have kept and tossed and Vogue keeps hanging me up. I really liked it but I'm not sure that it really did much for the plot. Maybe it should have stayed as a cool promotional video. Also, I am getting kinda annoyed with the "This week's assignment is _______. So everyone break into groups and come up with a number" plot device. It was old right after "Don't stand too close to me."

Yes. Also this glee club does more concerts than any group I've seen. It is okay to only show the kids in rehearsal sometimes.
