I haven't done a meme in a while, so I'm going to resurrect (and by resurrect I mean steal from
jedi_of_urth circa a week ago) one of those ones I always wanted to do back in the day but didn't 'cause there was only two people on my flist and they wouldn't have known a fandom if it bit them on the ass. I'm not saying it's going to be any better today, but I can hope - right? Also, yes I realize the for awhile has been punctuated with long periods of inactivity. What can I say, I'm fickle. Also, having a bit of a crazy watching british television from bittorrent. Feel free to bring the recommendations.
Anyways, here we go:
Name a character from one of my fandoms and I'll give you one or more of the following:
(a) three facts about them from my personal canon/fanon
(b) a reason he/she sucks
(c) a reason he/she is awesomecakes
(d) five things that never happened to that character and/or
(e) five people that character never fell in love with and why

Date: 2008-10-22 10:20 am (UTC)1. The best part about living in a hotel is never having to make the bed. You can get to work a few minutes earlier in the morning (or when called in for a crisis) and the sheets are still crisp and soft and perfect when you slip back in at night.
2.Leo has always been disappointed that Mallory was an only child. It's why he can sometimes be a little too paternalistic with his White House staff. He's never admit it, but sometimes he get jealous when Bartlett claims them for himself, after all he already has three.
3.Leo can tell you the calorie count of any muffin you show him. Margaret doesn't think he ever listens, and wouldn't babble half as much if she thought he did, but Leo does listen to every word.

Date: 2008-10-22 11:31 pm (UTC)Fox Mulder
1.Fox Mulder has never worn black silk boxer shorts. He would really like to know where that rumor came from. With all the running he does, there would be some awful riding up not to mention the flopping around.
2.Mulder never noticed the day every case stopped being about Samantha. One day he woke up and realized that four cases had gone by and not one thing about them had reminded him of his sister. Unfortunately, Scully didn't notice when every case stopped being about Samantha either, so she still calls him on it all the time – even when it's not true.
3.Mulder did not participate in the ebay auction to have his name digitally placed in Plan 9 From Outer Space. He was tempted, but never gave in.
4.Mulder never stopped looking for little green men. The gray ones were well documented and didn't need looking for so much as they needed looking into. But no myth is without basis, and Mulder always wondered if somewhere there was a little green alien.
5.Mulder never thought that the moon landing was staged. He loves a good conspiracy theory, but really who comes up with these things?

Date: 2008-10-22 10:23 am (UTC)2.That funny looking little dog – When Jackie and Pete first got married she often talked about getting a dog, so it shouldn't have surprised her when Pete brought one home not long after Rose was born. A new baby was just too much to look after and the dog kept getting underfoot, so they gave it to a neighbor within the week. Later, that dog had puppies and the neighbor offered one to Jackie for Rose, but it reminded her too much of Pete and she refused. Funnily enough, once after arriving in the alternate world Jackie was looking though a photo-album of Pete's and found herself – well the other her – at some fancy party clutching that same funny looking dog.
3.Mr. Martin – Jackie met him a conference about Roses school work. She expected the usual "Not living up to her potential" and "needs to stop talking and pay attention in class" bits a vowed to try again to get them through to Rose, but was surprised when the meeting ended with an invitation to meet for a pint the following night. Jackie considered it. Going so far as to think how a second income could allow them to move out of the estates, but dating your daughter's teacher is kind of creepy, and Mr. Martin was apparently unable to wait a year. At least he never called when the year was up like she asked.
4.Tommy Jones – Her big school romance. Everyone said they were the perfect couple, destined to be together forever. Everyone: her friends, her family. Tommy was sweet and handsome but he lacked something, something Jackie could never put her finger on. So, she left him behind when school ended and everyone called her crazy. It wasn't until Pete that Jackie realized what Tommy had been missing: imagination.
5.Laurence Robert Chatsly-Worthington IV – Hero of Temptation among the Daffodils and its sequel Temptation among the Holly. He was fictional after all and only idiots fall in love with fictional characters. Jackie Tyler may be many things but an idiot is not one of them. No, she never fell in love with Laurie she just liked to read about his adventures - once a month or so. Some adventures, say then kind that are found on the page a dropped book might open right up to, she liked to read about every couple of nights.

Date: 2008-10-21 11:00 pm (UTC)And, on the British TV front, 3 of my favourites are Spooks ( a spy show), Silent Witness (medical pathology) and Wire in the Blood (psychological crime). Ooh, I also enjoyed Life on Mars if crazy, maybe-time travelling cops are your thing. :)

Date: 2008-10-22 10:26 pm (UTC)And, Woohoo recs! I'd actually already snagged Life on Mars (possibly time traveling cops = totally my thing. Or possibly 70s music is my thing and I hear there is loads). I'd never heard of the others, but I will definitely be checking them out now.

ahahha.

Date: 2008-10-22 11:03 pm (UTC)Anyway,
House is awesome because he can say out loud the things the rest of us only get to say in our heads - or you know under our breath so only the person next to us can hear. This particular awesomeness would most likely not translate into real world awesomeness.

Date: 2008-10-22 06:29 am (UTC)Hm, British tv. Well, Coupling is a good funny show (Jane's totally crazy) and my favorite right now is Little Britain.

Date: 2008-10-22 10:17 pm (UTC)1. Temperance Brennan is in her forties, has a college-aged daughter, ex-husband, and a drinking problem (in other words book!Tempe is my personal cannon).
2. For Tv!Tempe: She knows more of the pop-culture references that her colleges bat around than she lets on. Really, the way people interact with popular culture shows a great deal about their society and having the ability to watch that kind of interaction is way more interesting that making a quick joke. Also, it makes Booth uncomfortable when he has to explain, and making Booth uncomfortable is always fun.
3. Before the department got their current labs, Tempe used to have to walk through some of the museum exhibits to get to labs. When she did that, she used to carry the bones around in shopping bags from up-scale department stores. It causes less fuss among the museum patrons and school parties when they can't see the skull you're holding. (okay so that one came from one of the stories my forensic-anthropology professor told in class, but I always thought it was cool – so I'm co-opting it for Brennan)
Also, thanks for the recs. Coupling and Little Britain are now on my list to check out.
Who says I'm limited to one? You don't tell me!
