A quiet night, a stack of books, a tuna melt on rye

I just have to do today's question from fannish5 as it combines my two favorite things. 

Name five series that should have had a musical episode (and how it could have been explained).


1.  Buffy the Vampire Slayer - Yes I know that this show did actually have a musical episode, but since there are shows that have musical episodes that shouldn't (I'm looking at you Chicago Hope) I wanted to include this one that should.  Really, Buffy set the bar for all musical episodes ever.  You need songs that are well integrated and a reason for the characters to sing. 

2. Doctor Who - You know it could happen.  Doctor Who would support a Rock Opera type of musical well.  The Doctor would land on some planet where the inhabitants sing instead of speak.  Since the TARDIS seems able to translate every other type of language she should be equally able to render all the characters' speech into song. 

3. Pushing Daisies - This show was so theatrical to begin with that adding songs wouldn't be terribly out of place. After all, the narrative already has two characters who were performers and one who sings occasionally.  The story would be about a crime either in a theater or one in a Nashville type music machine. 

4.  Veronica Mars - Okay this is mostly to see Kristen Bell sing more, but it wouldn't be too difficult to require Veronica (and possibly Wallace) to go under cover in the school play.  Duncan would already have the lead, since he was pretty involved in school anyway and Mac could be on tech (either from a genuine interest or as one of Veronica's undercover people).  Maybe Weevil could be there serving a punishment and turn out to be really good?

5.  House - Maybe I shouldn't put this one, as I'm not sure I would really want a musical episode of House, but I think it one of the few realistically based shows that could pull it off.  It would have to be either House once again in a coma or detoxing or a patient with symptoms that manifest as auditory hallucinations. 

As I said in This entry I came late to watching House because of a wonderful show, which like many other wonderful shows was critically acclaimed but with little audience, called Veronica Mars. One of my favorite parts of the VM fandom was the podcast Neptune Pirate Radio. It obviously met its demise with the end of the show it sprang from, but has recently returned as the reinvented My Show is Dead. If you are at all interested in the relationship between fandom and the source it springs from (in this case television) I would suggest checking it out. For instance, in the last episode (the only one available so far) they discussed casting additions to established shows and the hubub this creates among fans. The next one is supposed to be about the "sophomore slump" syndrome. Truely, this is the best put together fan-based podcast I've heard both in terms of content and technical aspects. So, once again check it out if you're interested.

I have developed a new obsession.  Since they canceled Veronica Mars, my tuesdays became wide open.  I had long been avoiding House because I knew obsession would follow.  Oh, my love is great...

1.  Snark - Arynne first sold me on the path to this show with the words "He's snarky and you are the Mistress of Snark, there will be much love."  Arynne is quite an insightful individual.
   
2. I have a name sake (see icon).  One who I like and is not Benny's wife commonly called Muffy. 
   
3. It reminds me of home.  Persistive Vegetative State Guy asks for a hoagie when he wakes up.  People look at me funny when I ask for a hoagie.  Also PVSG lived in the same town as my Grandmother. 
   
4. They showed a bag from the Princeton Record Exchange.  That place was the best part of going to choir camp (or as they liked to call it The Westminster Choir College Summer Vocal Institute for High School Musicians).  Yes, I was enough of a dork to go to choir camp for two summers in a row.  Yes I still have the Linda Eder CD's that I bought from the Princeton Record Exchange.  Really, where else can you walk in and get used Linda Eder.  Just saying. 

Apparently I am now working on the every two month updating schedule - I can live with that. Things which have recently happened to me:

Thing the first - acquired job as Archaeological Lab Tech - Go me! I will start Monday and there will be much goodness and rocks. At least I think there will be rocks, because they dug up a quarry site and that screams rocks to me.

Thing the second - Left JoAnn's. Sob, because they were mostly nice people, and they got me a cake and Crystal made me a purse. Yeah, because no more dealing with Jerome. Actually, let's give that a double yay!

Thing the Third - Ended internship at the Historical Society. No more cataloging buttons which is probably beneficial for my metal health. However, I still see much button research in my future as there was a surprising lack of useful dating information and that should be remedied.

Thing the Forth - Bought myself the first season of Veronica Mars on DVD. My love for the show, which was already high, now knows no bounds. I am disapointed that I didn't watch from the beginning because I though Kristin Bell on the poster was Laurie Laughlin. Wallace! Weville! Mac! Logan! Keith! Nice!Meg! and Veronica! Squee.

While I'm being all fannish and demandy, you should all watch Veronica Mars. Best.Show.Ever. It's on Wednesday nights at 9 Eastern on UPN (Yes, I know, Tape Lost, watch this!)

I'm still Excited over last night's episode (see I'm even capitalizing random words, though I may do that normally). Squee. Now I just need to train Ryan not to distract me with chatter during important scenes.
