My Week in Pictures

Sunday 1.02.11

When I was younger, our families New Years Eve tradition was to go to a double feature at the movies often with a trip to Friendly's in between the two showings. It was on one of these trips that I first saw The American President and my love for all things Sorkin began. Eventually I got older and started being invited to actual things on New Years that were way more exciting than hanging out at the movies with my parents and brother (you know how these things go), so the double features stopped. I decided to resurrect a solo version, a little bit late, by seeing The King's Speech and The Social Network on Sunday. Both were quite good, though I must admit that in The Social Network I missed the inherent optimism usually present in Sorkin movies.
The theater I go to here in New Orleans (well really in Harrahan but close enough) plays music in the parking lot which has always kind of freaked me out. I'm not sure why. This is a picture of one of the speakers.
Monday 01.03.11
Back to work.
phoenix_silaqui had come to mine for Christmas Eve dinner, but I forgot to give her her present. Instead we exchanged gifts Monday at work.
Here she is modeling her new fingerless gloves based off a pair Penny wears in Dr. Horrible's Sing-a-long Blog. I claim partial responsibility for her Wedon love since I enabled by loaning her all seven series of Buffy on DVD.
Tuesday 01.04.11
The light bulbs in my kitchen blew out New Year's Eve. Unfortunately I have 12 (20?)ft ceilings throughout my apartment and there is a shade on the underside of the kitchen light which you have to reach over to change the bulbs. Thus we had to call the landlord to get it changed, but both my roommate and I felt bad calling on a holiday with such a minor problem, so Tuesday was the day I got light again in the kitchen.

Wednesday 01.05.11
We hired someone new in the lab! I get help on the 10,000+ artifacts I have to analyze (which very shortly should have two sister collections of around the same number). But, because of the new person, the lab director wanted to move seating around so the historics people could sit together and the pre-historics people could sit together.
phoenix_silaqui and I swapped desks. This is my new work space. I'm open to suggestions on how to decorate.

Thursday 01.06.10
The Carnival Season officially starts and we got our first office King Cake. I still don't like King Cake (I have to try it every year because I get pulled in by everyone else's excitement. Instead I took a picture of my adorable lunch box.

Friday 01.07.11
One of the only things I don't like about my apartment is the heating system. I have what I once heard someone describe as flame boxes. You turn the gas on, stick a match in the side, and have fire in a little metal box. The heat well, but really only have one setting (on) and I'm always hesitant to leave it unattended (so I turn the heat off when I sleep). They do, however, glow very prettily in the dark.

Saturday 01.08.10
I went to Hollygrove Market for the first time, something I've been meaning to do for a good six months now, to pick up one of their produce boxes. I picked up some lovely fruits and vegetables most of which I promptly made into soups. These mustard greens, however, will be eaten all by their lonesome, well okay, with a little garlic.

Date: 2011-01-10 12:33 pm (UTC)Your kitchen light fitting is gorgeous! And so is your heating actually. Gas heating kind of freaks me out...gas in general does tbh. I am a bit paranoid though!
