pinksonia: (Declaration Commitee)
[personal profile] pinksonia

It's a new year and I have a new header courtesy of the gift giving challenge at [livejournal.com profile] gleeverse .  I also have a list of extensive resolution-like things, but expressed in the infinitely more doable format of [livejournal.com profile] mission101 .  I became aware of the mission of making a list of 101 goals to complete over 1001 days (or ~ 2.75).  Each goal is supposed to be realistic and measurable.  I've tried to stay away from having too many goals that require large out put of money or that hinge on the co-operation of someone else.  Many goals have numbers after them to indicate how they will be measured; however, if you see something that you think I might need to further define quantitatively, please let me know.  Most of these are things that I have been meaning to do but somehow never get around to,  some are habits I hope to take with me past the end date, some are fears I hope to get over, and a couple are just silly fun.  I also have three blank spaces at the end for goals that may come upon me during the journey.

Yay!

Can you tell me about 62? Seasonal challenge And Are we friends on GoodReads? If not we should be!

I belong to a group on GoodReads called "The Seasonal Reading Challenge" (which I believe is a spin-off of the group "the next best book group" or something like that. Every three months they set a list of 60 or so different prompts of kinds of books to read each worth a different amount of points.
For example right now one of the five point prompt is :
5.9 -- Noel, Noel
Read a book with NO "L" in the title and NO "L" in the author name. Examples: Wicked Appetite by Janet Evanovich, Speaker for the Dead by Orson Scott Card

and a 30 point prompt is:
Around the world, this time of year is one for giving gifts. My gift to all of you, my favorite challenge participants, is this task!

Roll a die twice (or until you get two different numbers), and read two books (one for each die) that fit the numbered criteria below. However, there is one catch: the letters A-S-I-A must appear in full (2 As, 1 S, and 1 I), but in any order, in either the title or the author's name.

1: Read a book by one of your favorite authors.
2: Read a book from one of your favorite genres.
3: Reread a book you loved as a kid (challenge rules of at least 100 pages or 500 children's picture book pages still apply).
4: Read a book you've added to your TBR list in the last 6 months.
5: Read a book you've been dying to read, but haven't had a place for in the challenge.
6: Reread a book you gave 5 stars to the first time around.

Then the people who have signed up for the challenge that season compete to get the most points.

Also, I don't think we're friends there but this is me http://www.goodreads.com/user/show/1005498.

Finally, love the Sound of Music icon!

I am more than happy to help! I can be of assistance in all of (but not limited to) the following:

2 (I go to Audubon Dental. They are very nice.)
17 (the receiving bit, since I'm a crap knitter)
31 (heaving bosoms!)
32 (I'm also a crap bowler)
37 (weee! touristy!)
44 (I like to do things!)
45 (I am a mediocre ice-skater)
51 (it's so brainy. Please be on my team?)
55 (I will show you!)
84 (I have two.)
85 (I always celebrate Banned Books Week)

I shall have to give them a call

17 (the receiving bit, since I'm a crap knitter)
You can totally have first dips.

31 (heaving bosoms!)
Quite. Unfortunately I will no longer have the opportunity to say "Wow! Elenore Roosevelt is hot" unless somebody decides to do a "Women in American History" show again.

32 (I'm also a crap bowler)
My goal as always is to break a 96. Also there should be bumper bowling

37 (weee! touristy!)
Yes. One can even be a plantation tour.

44 (I like to do things!)
45 (I am a mediocre ice-skater)
Is there even a place around here to ice-skate. I'm not that good, but it is kind of fun.

51 (it's so brainy. Please be on my team?)
Of course. We will keep up the tradition of "Team (not so) Brainy Specs"

55 (I will show you!)
Score

84 (I have two.)
On of which you are looking to rid yourself of?

85 (I always celebrate Banned Books Week)
What do you do? Most of the literature seems to be just reading the banned or challenged books, which I'm all for, but I do that whenever anyway ('cause I'm contrary like that). I'd love to do something more pro-active, but I don't know what.

31- I... I wish I had seen that show...

32- SO MANY BUMPERS!

37- two goals in one!

45- Maybe in Harahan?

51- You'd better be on my team. You'll kick my butt otherwise.

55- I even have stuff that might work with your skin tone.

84- I have one that if pretty new that could go to a good home, yes.

85- guerrilla quotation posting campaign on campus. There are several events in town each fall, like live readings at bars and such.

Me too. I read a review of it in the Gabit back in 2004 or 2005.

45- Maybe in Harahan?
I will have to look.

51- You'd better be on my team. You'll kick my butt otherwise.
I will totally be on your team, though I don't know about the butt kicking. I don't know that I know any more obscure WWII trivial than you do. We will just have to always lose those rounds.

55- I even have stuff that might work with your skin tone.
yay

84- I have one that if pretty new that could go to a good home, yes.
I'd be willing to take that off your hands for you.

85- guerrilla quotation posting campaign on campus. There are several events in town each fall, like live readings at bars and such.
Very cool. Count me in.
