pinksonia: (Team Donna)
So here is the pimping post as promised.  I have two different land communities to bring your attention to.

First up is [livejournal.com profile] drwholand which focuses on the universe of Doctor Who, using Classic Who, New Who, Torchwood, and The Sarah Jane Adventures (though there is a bit bias toward New Who among the participants).  With ~15 members per team (three teams) this is the smallest of the three land communities I've been a part of.  It is super laid back.  We get one puzzle or game, one writing challenge, and one graphics challenge per week (with about a week to complete them) so, I at least, never feel overwhelmed.  It always feels like everyone has a chance to win because there usually aren't that many entries to any one competition.  Really, if you have never been part of a land community before and are interested in checking the phenomenon our (and have some knowledge of Doctor Who) this would be a great stepping off point.

I'm using this graphic 1. because I'm the mod of team Donna and there for am naturally biased toward the team and 2. because we are currently the smallest of the three teams and could use the additional members.  However, you are certainly welcome to join team jack or team doctor if you feel called too.  (of course, as with all land communities, the team name isn't really all that important.)

Next we have [livejournal.com profile] gleeverse which focuses, as you may have guessed, on the television show Glee.  Now this is a much larger land community, with the teams having close to forty members each (again there are three teams).  The main categories of challenges; puzzles, writing, and  graphics, are the same, but it is not uncommon to have multiple challenges of each type running at the same time.  In addition, with so many members competition is fierce, or at least each challenge can have upwards of 50 entries competing for the top three spots.  Still it is a lot of fun.  Over the last sectional, the teams really seemed to start bonding with each other (at least the teachers did), so if you are interested in the social aspect of a land community, this may be the one for you.

Here I am in team teachers (and again I believe we are the smallest team at the moment) but team cheerios and team new directions are also available.

This is going to be one of those posts with a lot of things I've been meaning to put here -- in bullet point-esq form -- because I fail at that whole timely manner thing.  Er yeah. Also I changed me default icon.  Just felt like that needed to be said.
Once work related thing )

Then a bunch of Who related things )There is a possibility there will be another one of these tomorrow featuring a photo from the prom-party and a couple of photos of knitted objects.  Then again, we all remember what I said at the top re: a timely manner, so maybe not.

Well the heat rash is clearing up -- sort of, so that you all for your help.  Really at the moment my thoughts consist of "It's hot. It's Hot.  OMG is it HOT!"  Today we were surveying along when various people's text message ring tones went off, signaling the arrival of a message from the weather channel.  We were under a severe weather warning because of the heat.  Their solution was to stay indoors.  We laughed.

One of my land communities, [livejournal.com profile] sorkinverse is your interested, had us all do a voice post for a challenge.  It kind of weirded me out - I hate listening to my self, but then I guess everyone does -- but I thought I would get double duty out of it and post here to.  So if any of you are interested in what I sound like, or for that matter in my favorite Sorkin character, favorite Sorkin verse quote, or the book I am currently reading feel free to go here.

1.  My arm hurts -- mostly because I have a rather large bruise (which is disporportionately un-purple to how much it hurts) right above me elbow.  I love when I get take away reminders of a lesson learned.  This time: cut a hole in the plastic tarp before trying to poke the datum stake through it.  If you can't do that, make sure your center of gravity is such that when the datum stake finally pokes through the tarp you don't topple over into the unit.  And above all, make sure that toppling over into the unit does not make you fall directly into the big plastic bucket.  Er. yeah.

2.  I should remember to post about exciting excavation units when they happen and not well after when the unit has gone back to being much less exciting.  I found a point!  And then there was another point and a scraper and a feature that may not have been a feature but which I got to fill out a feature form anyway!  it was pretty great.

3.  A short note:
Dear Colleges,
Lets not set off fireworks in the parking lot of the hotel.

Thanks,
Me

4. The getting to know you (read lj stalking) challenge at [livejournal.com profile] drwholand is driving me crazy.  I thought that I was a better lj stalker than this (I do have a rather lot of practice), but I just haven't figured out the best way to go about finding the post where someone discuses their food preferences.  Boo.  Also, if those food preferences happen to be yours, and your here lj stalking me for the challenge, you should totally tell me about those food preferences in the comments.  No?  Well it was worth a shot.

5.  I need to remember to resize (so they're less annoying to me) the pictures from my picspam for [livejournal.com profile] sorkinverse and then post it here.  I was rather proud of it.  And I never include enough west wing-ey goodness.
