Apr. 21st, 2008 05:30 pmToday I accidentally hit my crew chief in the nuts with a shovel. I put my field pack down next to the shovel, knocking it over directly into his crotch. Oops!
Also it is funny how gossip travels around the company and how the story changes along the way. Now, the company I work for has three offices which are for the most part completely separate, although we do on occasion help each other out with projects, so most people know employees from the other offices. In our office, we have something like forty employees, currently spread over four states. Various members of all these different crews, as well as the office workers, are constantly calling, texting, emailing, or in other ways communicating with the others that they are not currently working with. For example: yesterday, one of the other crew chief's on my project (TJL) got bit by a dog while in the field. Today my crew chief (RAH) got a call from an APM in Georgia (PC) saying "I heard your dog bit TJL." One of the other crew members (NS), who I'm pretty sure isn't close enough with PC to be calling him said "No, I said the dog looked like your dog."
Finally, starting Monday I will be in Laurel, Mississippi in a hotel without internet. Grrr.

Date: 2008-04-22 12:10 am (UTC)We work in a relatively small office so office gossip is pretty much the norm. Plus I work with mostly women, there are three men other than maintenance and they stay far away from us, so sometimes the fur really flies and it can get brutal.
Boo for no internet.

Date: 2008-04-22 09:49 pm (UTC)Every other office I've worked in has has just as much gossip, so I don't know why I'm so surprised. I think it's how quickly everything spreads despite the distances between us.
I agree!

Date: 2008-04-22 01:11 am (UTC)and yeah . . . why was NS calling PC (who is now in Florida btw)?
I heard about the dog and TJL today too. This is the first i've heard of the nut hit though. I can just imagine his expression.
Oh:
Last week, RM asked me as i text'd fervently "This company is just one big brain isn't it?"
BTW Meridian, MS, so much cooler than Laurel i'm guessing. There is a huge hiking/biking/horse trail a 1/4 mile from my hotel. I wish i was here for more than digging 3 miles! And a mall/move theater in my parking lot.
Oh well i've got more rumors to spread ;)

Date: 2008-04-22 09:53 pm (UTC)We get to stay in Meridian after we finish up in Laurel, so here's hoping that we get to stay in the same hotel. Actually, Laurel is pretty big, and we could have stayed somewhere nicer but RAH wants more per diem.
Just remember - Keep me in the loop!
