Well it took me awhile -- doesn't everything -- but here is the second half of my Gallifrey One round up.
Saturday
Saturday
- This was the day I dressed up. I'm a huge fan of making things, putting together costumes and what not, but for some reason I never really got around to it this year. I'd been planning a Barbara Wright costume (since I'm all about recreating characters I like), but never really got a handle on the hair, which is really what the whole costume would have to revolve around. So, at the last minute I threw together a Bernice Summerfield costume. Since I'm an archaeologist too, the various props and what-not were readily on hand.
- Once again started off the day by watching over the dealer's room door checking badges. My door partner was someone even newer to the fandom than I am (or at least someone who doesn't develop a new obsession and than proceed to read up on every aspect of that obsession), so I got to play the expert by telling her each of the costumed people walking by were supposed to be. In the room across from us they were screening Tomb of the Cybermen so I also got to point out the girl on the screen was the same person as the woman sitting in the middle of the autograph table, which door-partner thought was exceptionally cool. Go me!
- This was also the point when this post happened. There was much wide-eyedness on his part and much turning red on my part. I do rather have a tendency to turn red at any point that people draw attention to me. What can I say it is a failing.
- Saw these people all dressed up as Big Finish companions and managed to recognize all of them despite never having heard audios with any of them (Well except Hex). Talked to the Charley for a while before I got the "hey wait, are you dressed as.."
- Went to the podcasting summit and Louise Page Interview and Costume slide show panels. The first was rather poorly organized and not so much what I was interested in, though I really was just there to show support, while the second involved many, many jokes about boiler suits.
- Looked for what
zooropababy asked me to pick up and rather creeped out the guy at the vendors booth -- Go me! Also, bought a tee-shirt for myself and a weeping angle for
glowwormtu because they creep her out.
- Three more people recognized my costume bringing the total to five. I really wasn't expecting many more than that as it is a rather specialized niche. At least one said I was excellent.
- Nap
- Masquerade! Always the best part, but the highlight was clearly this skit about the brigadier. I did end up helping herd people into the auditorium which involved rather more people getting snappy at me than I like.
- Also Paul Cornell hosted a round of Just A Minute during the time out for judging during which Katy Manning was extremely dirty while talking about "mars bars". Namely how she could swallow a deep-fried one whole.
- Finally there was a Buffy Sing-a-long. Yay! I don't think I had realized quite how much people hate Dawn.
- More watching the dealer's room. This time the guy in charge yelled at me about letting people in before they were open. Then one of the vendors came up to me later to apologize for him.
- While I was watching the door, Deborah Watling came back to sign autographs only to find the table empty. She asked me where everyone was, which I didn't have an answer for. Then she wanted to know what the video room across the hall was showing -- it was Planet of the Dead and said watching that sound like it might be more fun. Then everyone else showed up and she went back to her table.
zooropababy I got what you wanted. Let me know what address I can send it to you at.
- Went the costuming 210, Chicks Dig Time Lords (which is a wonderful book of essays which anyone with the least bit of interest should read), That iconic look, and closing ceremony panels.
- Katy Manning gave a shout out to all the people who were understanding about her inability to keep track of a badge and allowed her to go places anyway. I choose to believe that that includes me.
- After every thing was over, a bunch of us volunteers who were not important enough to go to the staff dinner were sitting around at the info table, when one of the people took out her many, many action figures. Of course people started putting those action figures in dirty positions, mostly involving multiple versions of Capt. Jack. One girl started taking pictures with a camera we assumed to be hers until she said that is wasn't. Flipping through the pictures to try and figure out who's it was, we found pictures of Tommy Knight on what looked to be a ski vacation. We can only guess that it was his mothers camera. Apparently I was the only one who thought it was appropriate to erase the action figure pictures before returning the camera, so I'm pretty sure they are still on there.
