pinksonia: (Found it)

I found my first flake.  It was sitting there all nice and pretty and pink right next to one of my shovel tests.  This means two things:
  1. I can actually recognize a flake if I see one.  This was not a sure thing.  I was pretty much winging it at my last job, which may have been bad.
  2. I can actually spot a flake in a ped survey type context.
This makes me excited despite the fact that I am still in no way interested in pre-historic artifacts.  Still a rock!

Don't know if it was such a bad thing about winging it before - were you doing Place or Tattoo2? I had to label a bunch of that junk (and go through and pull hammerstones and such), and lemme tell ya - even the real flakes looked crappy. Ah, the joys of crappy chert.

ped survery? What be this?

I would have been the one doing Place II. And yeah, everything looked the same. I'm happy to have discovered that the sameness was due to the crappy flakes and not a personal mental block.

To be fair, the only ped survey I've seen was on access roads, and maybe in a couple of soy bean fields.

Place II is the crap.
Ah, you mean fieldwalking? Man, they get all fancy down there ;-)

Yeah, that would be the Pedestrian survey. We like to sound all fancy, and how can you not sound fancy using the word Pedestrian.
