Geek Mobile
May. 19th, 2008 05:14 pm There is a possibility that our field vehicle has turned into the ultimate geek mobile. We are listening to one of the Star Wars sequel novels as a book on tape. Lost of Hahn and Leia's children and people turning to the dark-side. Also, clearly an allegory for problems with the modern world, which I'm still trying to figure out whether there is a certain degree of clairvoyance in it or not.
I know I read many of these novels as a middle schooler (yes I know, uber dork) but I don't remember this one in particular. It seems to be taking on The Patriot Act, but that would not have been around if this book were written while I was in middle school.
Then there are the times when I just have to laugh out loud at the over the top writing. The person turning to the dark-sides problems are described as so much more than a disrupted love-life. And in one sentence a building is described as a warren, only to be further described in the next sentence as two large rooms, one a cafeteria and the other a lounge. Now, I'm pretty sure that two large rooms do not make a warren.
Finally Boba Fete and all the other people from his planet speak is some sort of cross between a Cockney and an Australian accent. So, I have to crack up and time a member of the 'Mandalorian Diaspora,' as we call them, speaks.
