Dear APM,
Here are some tips for maintaining a quality relationship with me in the field.

Here are some tips for maintaining a quality relationship with me in the field.
- The transect will be done when it's done. You will know it's when my butt is out of the woods and in the car. Alternatively, if you prefer, I can call you when the transect is complete. What is not going to work is calling me every five minutes for an update. This is just going to piss me off and make me work slower. Every time you call I have to stop, locate my cell phone, and spend a certain amount of time telling you what hole everyone is on. This is time which could be spent actually digging said holes. If you are bored and want us done faster, feel free to get out of the car and come help.
- I know you don't like to do paper work. Here's a well known secret: I do. I will happily do your paperwork for you, but lets drop the charade of you training me on it. I learned that skill exactly one year ago and have been practicing ever since. I think I've got it down.
- Please stop letting me know how much harder everything was when you started. Technology has changed in the last eight years. I makes things different. Also, if the company hadn't been able to streamline their paperwork in that amount of time I would be seriously worried. Please rejoice in what is easier, work to fix the things which are still to difficult, and drop the martyr act. It's really not becoming.
