Sorry for the spam

Meh, I am posting a lot tonight, I don't know what is with that. Okay maybe I do.

I'm a little drunk. I found a rather enjoyable bottle of bubbly white when I stopped by the WholeFoods this evening looking for some salted caramel. I should probably not be stamping people at the moment, but I am. I trust that any weirdness will be counter-acted by everyone else's vote. Or not. I mean, after all I was stamped Ravenpuff and I still think people were smoking the bad crack that weekend, but then I feel weird seeking a restamp because I hate hybrid re-stamps. Mostly because they reek of "give me this stamp." Grrr.

Otherwise, today was a big cooking day. My freezer is now all sorts of stocked with froze but homemade meals that I can just quickly prepare when I need to. Namely, I have a bag of ricotta gnocchi and one of black bean quesadillas. I am all about the Budget Bytes food blog. I also feel the need to say that I am no more domesticated that I was yesterday, because one of my friends insists that one of the stages of domestication involves feeling the need to post pictures of your cooking (notice the lack of pictures) to facebook.

Finally, yesterday felt like a terribly productive day. I figured that my local checking account (that I really only maintained in order to process any checks I might receive) had been charging me a $12 a month service fee (since my roommate moved out) because I did not have a high enough volume of transactions. So, I closed it and then had to change the payment method on the couple of bills that were paid out of that account. Mostly electricity, water, and my gym. I also managed to get the thread I needed for the baptism cloth I have due on the 30th, and I got two new pairs of flats in a royal blue and a black.

Actually, shoes bring up another thing I have been wondering about. Are shoes subject to vanity sizing or are my feet shrinking? When I was in high school I consistently wore a US size 10 and occasionally even had to go up to an 11 for boots. The flats I just purchased were US size 8 1/2. That seems like a large amount for my feet to have shrunk (though some of it can be accounted for in the fact that, at least the black ones were 8 1/2 wide. Those I will be able to wear with socks, while the blue will only work with stockings.

Request

There is a good chance that this is the only time this will ever happen, because I hate asking for things (particularly without offering something in return -- it upsets the power balance -- so let me know if there is something I could do in return), but does anyone have a hankering to make a sig-tag? I have plenty of them for [livejournal.com profile] hogwartsishome, but they are all for Ravenclaw. Now that [community profile] enchanted_sorting is up and running I need one or two for Slytherin, and somehow sigtags just seem like something you can't rightfully make for yourself.

Choir has finally started back up for the season.

The church I go to has been undergoing renovations since last January and now they are almost done. The choir is putting together a Broadway Night (which is really more a Broadway and Popular music night), something we usually do every May, to re-open the Wednesday night programing. Fair enough.

What I am less thrilled about is the fact that our choir director has picked two minstrel songs to feature that night. As far as I know, no one in the choir is particularly thrilled with the musical content of the songs, and with the general history of Mistrel shows they are kind of uncomfortable to sing. Not that there is anything specific in either of the songs that pings me just sort of the genre in general. Oh well.

In more exciting choir related happenings our big piece for the advent concert (I wish they would call it "The Word in Music" as the church I grew up in did, as that name sounds so much nicer) this year is the Vaughn Williams Hodie. I'm excited!

I have a feeling I confused the tag scanner machine

Can I say how proud of myself I was today. I got to the gym after work only to realize that my water bottle had leaked on my tee-shirt and I had forgotten to back my sneakers. Not the best showing ever. But then I actually went home, put on a different tee-shirt and my sneakers and CAME BACK. Woot.

Lately I've been feeling very scattered with my knitting. I've started four projects in the last month and a half, an argyle sweater vest, Ron's animal cracker hat, an autumn leaves scarf and some burgundy socks. For some reason none of the are holding my attention, but I haven't found something else to hold my attention instead. I do need to do a Baptism cloth by the end of the month, so maybe that will offer some revitalization. Ugh, that does mean I need to go get more blue thread since they only ever seem to assign me the boys.

So I'm here, everything is fine. I still, however, don't have electricity and being hot and without Internet is starting to get really, really old. Yay, McDonalds with both wifi and a generator.

And you get another post

I've let my parents know, but I'll put the word out here too in case you find yourself wondering. We've got a tropical storm, likely to become a hurricane, on the way. People here are going nuts because it is taking a similar path, and is supposed to make landfall on the same day as Katrina. However, it is at this point, and likely to remain, a MUCH SMALLER STORM.

Anyway, I'm staying. I will, however, be moving a few blocks over to stay with [livejournal.com profile] glowwormtu and her husband, not because of any fault in my apartment, but because I don't want to be alone while it is storming. Mostly I am posting to say that starting Wednesday there is a good chance that I will be without electricity and therefore on a slight hiatus.

Today was a strange day

Thank you all for your kind words this morning. I promise not to spend a lot of time posting vague passive-agressive messages because, well, it would annoy me, and I try not to do things which would annoy me to other people.

After my bad mood, the morning went through a comedy of errors that usually would have mad it a bad day, but for some reason mostly teased me out of my mood. So, right after posting, I went out to my car to go to work and found the car dead. Apparently I had not turned my headlights off last night after going to the grocery store.

I called AAA and they came and jumped me with in a half an hour, which meant I arrived at work only 45mins after I would normally be there and still before over half of the people I work with.

Then when I walked into the lab, a new-ish crew chief was complaining that the crew she was left with wouldn't do their work and, in fact, were mad at her because she wouldn't let all four of them take a trip to Burger King because one of the "Really needed greasy food [for a hangover] and wasn't fit to drive herself". Really people?! If you are not fit to drive from work to the Burger King, you are also not fit to be driving from your house to the office. PLEASE DO NOT COME TO WORK DRUNK.

But really, by that point I was feeling much better.

Came home from work early today. Around 10:00 I decided that I just couldn't keep my eyes open and that the last thing I wanted was STR II printed backwards on my face because it rubbed off the bag when I fell asleep at my desk. Instead I dozed in my big-ol'-chair while watching A:tLA (which incidentally, I feel like I missing something with -- I enjoy it okay but I am not acquiring the fannish-rabies) since there were people using lawn mowers and life guard whistles outside.

Otherwise, I now have 2 of 4 superlative category banners done. Half way through it occurred to me that I should stop volunteering to do things that involve the possibility of misspelling peoples names. I do that, seriously, all the time.

And finally:

Not a whole lot, but I am liking all the highlighted boxes for this month

I think I'm coming down with something. My throat has been doing the progression where yesterday it was sore just right after I woke up, and today it was sore all day. I also spent the day being abnormally tired, so there is a good chance that I am going to bed directly after this.

Q6: A book you can only read once (no matter you love or hate it) )

I don't know how well known this youtube video is outside of New Orleans.

It was doing the rounds here about a year ago because we have all shopped at that Walmart (it's the Tchoupitoulas street if anyone cares).

Anyway, my co-historic analyst likes to look at the NOPD crime reports during lunch. Today they reported that the "singer" in that video was in a multi-hour standoff with the police yesterday after threatening to kill his neighbor. That lead us of a youtube search to see if he had any other songs which ultimately resulted in this, an acoustic version of Wally World. We we cracking up for a good 10 minutes.

I can even.

Yes, the pattern is supposed to look like snakeskin

I can't believe these socks are the first project I've finished since July. During the winter I was getting two to four projects done a month plus working on two larger projects. Now just the one (and a couple others in various half done states still on the needles).

Photobucket

Anyway, for these I used the 'Severus Loves Lily' yarn that I got in my HP Swap box from the Odd Ducks. I was going to use it to make a scarf to go with my winter coat (which is also bright green) but the two green were slightly different hues. Instead I pulled this sock pattern (which is called, appropriately enough 'Nagini') out of my queue.

I like them. Though I don't understand why most sock patterns want you to stop mid-calf. I don't like my socks that high, and I can't imagine that it is ever attractive. But that's fine, it just means that I have a good amount of the yarn left over to do something else with -- probably some faire isle mittens.

First off, thanks for the podcast recs. I will be checking them out!

Next, I've been watching Playing Shakespeare which appears to be a television documentary from the 80s with lots of well respected actors and actresses. I'm finding it pretty interesting, but what I've really come away from the program with is a sense of awe at just how intelligent some of them seem (mostly Ian McKellen and Ben Kingsley). It is really rather refreshing to be impressed with someone out of character instead of kind of cringing. Now I want to see ALL THE PLAYS, which would be easier if my lot in life was not to have Macbeth playing near me all the time and rarely anything else -- I don't know what is up with that.

And then Book!Meme Day Two:

The book you want to read next
Hmm. Let's see )
