And for the random questions

Does anyone know a good dinosaur Christmas pun? I've been tasked with coming up with one for a gift of dinosaur shaped cookies but neither puns nor dinosaurs are really my area of expertise.

Anyone have a good recipe for trout? I was given two pieces tonight at choir because the husband of one of the other Altos had had a big catch and she didn't want them all in her freezer.

Otherwise, I got to do SCIENCE today at work. You all may not know, but I majored in Chemistry as well as Anthropology at school. So, when the big boss decided that he wanted Phosphorus tests run on some soil samples taken at possible sites, I was the one everyone thought of. It was kind of fun to run around the office with my rubber gloves looking all science-y, but really it just reinforced why I got a job in Archaeology instead of Chemistry. It was really pretty boring and I'm glad that it was just today and maybe a another day or two every once in a while.

In which I kind of freak out and then complain about my scanner.

Lately I've been trying to teach myself how to draw with the help of internet tutorials.  I just submitted my first tries to [livejournal.com profile] hh_sugarquill and I am kind of freaking out.  I know no one is going to be mean.  I've never seen anyone be mean at least.  But still sitting here kind of shaking.  Yup some definite shaking going on.

In slightly related news, does anyone know why my scanner would refuse to scan the entire piece of paper I put in.  I am rather sick of losing people's heads or feet to the whims of my scanner.  grr.

You buzz around my head and I'll smack your ass

Does anyone know where I can get fly paper.  I've got flies all around my apartment and I can figure out either where they're coming from or how to get rid of them.  I've taken to walking around with some rolled up junk mail and smacking them when I can, which is really an exercise in frustration.  There is one guy in the kitchen who is taunting me with this flying from door to fridge to light back to the door.  I looked at the grocery store and all they had was a spray with the following instructions:
  • Close all windows and doors.
  • Spray to fill the entire room.  Pay special attention to windows and light fixtures
  • Leave the room immediately and seal it off
  • Wait 15 minutes then ventilate well
I'm not really comfortable with that.  Especially because I don't have doors on the two rooms where the flies congregate, so I would have to douse the whole apartment.

Tales of ass-hat-ery and super cool ceramics

I'd like to know what it is about being a pedestrian that makes people think you want them to behave like an ass.  Now, I spend a lot of time walking around both because I like to walk and because I like to leave the truck available to my co-workers if I'm not going very far.  Usually I'm walking on a side walk or at the very least I'm well off to the side of the road, so I'm pretty sure the drivers don't think they need to warn me of their presence.  Yet, some how I've had multiple people who are driving by me honk their horns right as they get to me.  Thanks for the scare!  There is also apparently the need in people to yell things out their windows.  It's usually things I can't even hear, but which I assume are jerk-y in nature.

The people in the unit next to me found the coolest piece of pre-historic pottery I've ever seen today.  Now, I'm not terribly interested in pre-historics, so me saying it's cool means a lot. (In fact it made Cori's day, since she is always trying to show up Jesse in his finds.  She rarely succeeds.) The pottery was approximately 10 x 5 cm and decorated.  Now we find a lot of check-stamped or ones with incised lines, this sherd had some sort of free hand design that Greg swears is either an eye or a sun.  I don't know about that, but certainly it's a design I've never seen before.

So, denizens of flist-land, has anyone read George Elliot's Mill on the Floss? I was listening to the book-on-tape/radio drama of it today, and I'm wondering whether I missed a section or if it really does end that abruptly.

Fall TV - part 1, hopefully

So does anyone know if the Entertainment Weekly issue where they discuss all the new fall shows is out yet?  I usually use it to map out my viewing schedule, but EW is so difficult to find lately.  Also, yes I map out a schedule.  There is usually graph paper and highlighters involved.

In which Allison talks about clothing as costumes

So does anyone else wear clothes and think of them as a costume.? As in "this is my [insert name of character] out fit.  When I was home my mother had me go through my room and get rid of things.  I came across a pair of cut off shorts that I brought back with me since it pretty darn hot in Mississippi.  Every time I wear them, especially with this one berry color shirt I like, 'Cock-eyed Optimist' and 'Wonderful Guy' run through my head.  Apparently it is my Nellie Forebush outfit.

Interview meme - Last one I promise (atleast for a while)

I promise I don't do these that often. All evidence to the contrary - I know. Anyway I will be trying out the lovely interview meme, mostly because I always wanted to be interviewed, but I only ever saw it on journals I was lj-stalking, and that's creepy enough without asking to be interviewed. So, follow the directions, or ignore this it doesn't matter, but here's how it goes:

1. Leave me a comment saying, "Interview me."
2. I will respond by asking you five questions of a very intimate and creepily personal nature. Or not so creepy/personal. <----more likely to be my option.
3. You will update your LJ with the answers to the questions.
4. You will include this explanation and an offer to interview someone else in the post.
5. When others comment asking to be interviewed, you will ask them five questions.

A few works of Children's Literature

I've recently started re-reading children's fiction, beloved by myself or others.  I started with the librivox recording of Louisa May Alcott's

I plan to continue this trend with the rest of the Anne books (I'm currently working on Anne of Avonlea), and was wondering if anyone had other suggestions.

A question about Comments (someday I will stop writing titles with Mrs. Tiller in mind)

So, how does everyone feel about random comment leavers.  I'll admit, I'm an mostly unapologetic lj-stalker.  You know random clicking and  friendsfriends and all of that.  Occasionally, I almost feel moved to leave a comment, almost.  Do people find that fun or creepy?  I really don't want to be the creepy one.  Though I suppose designating myself as any kind of stalker is inherently creepy.
