March Round-Up

It's a little late, but I figure there should be some sort of March round up, even if it is just books read. So, for those there are eight: two physical books, two ebooks, and four audiobooks.

Books )

Then there are some pictures. (1) of the April calendar and (1) to prove that while I did fall down on keeping track of my sticker goals, I did manage to not bite my nails for the month of March.

Allmovies20in20:The Sound of Music

This month's theme over at [livejournal.com profile] allmovies20in20 was musicals. Since The Sound of Music has been one of my favorite movies since I was about three it seemed like the obvious choice. For those who would like to know, I used "Confidence" (which incidentally was written for the movie so I feel like it is an extra appropriate choice) for the favorite song. For "random word" the generator gave me detoxification, weekly, and proposal -- I chose proposal.

Things which would be nice

I really wish that Entergy would send notice before they turn off the gas to make upgrades. It is a little inconvenient to come home only to find the gas turned off :-(. At least this time it was totally turned off and not back on with the pilot lights out so that gas was just streaming into my apartment.

To My Flist

Feel free to choose the one you like best to be your own personal valentine amongst the group. Also, why does the red sqiggly line think that amongst is not a word? /important valentines questions.

(no subject)

I just got back from Christmas Eve services (where, as is tradition I managed to drip hot wax all over my fingers). I'm going to take this opportunity to say Merry Christmas to everyone as I will be traveling most of my tomorrow. Louisiana to Pennsylvania to New Jersey, here I come!

And for the random questions

Does anyone know a good dinosaur Christmas pun? I've been tasked with coming up with one for a gift of dinosaur shaped cookies but neither puns nor dinosaurs are really my area of expertise.

Some Christmassy Ramblings

Whoo! The first Christmas card has arrived! Thanks [livejournal.com profile] wagrobanite.

The package my mother told me expect also came today. I would appear that I have officially aged out of the care package (which fair enough) since everything in it was already mine. And all of them were Chirstmas decorations that I hadn't moved across the country because I wasn't particularly attached to them in the first place. At least now I actually have a decoration out since prior to this I was being too lazy to actually get any of the decorations I do have out of the storage cupboard. Along those lines I think I will need to get one of the Rosemary bushes shaped like a little tree this weekend at put all of my miniature ornaments on it.

I've been very much not realizing that it was December since December started. It just occurred to me today that our big choir concert is this weekend. It seems like we just started with the Hodie; though equally surprisingly, despite feeling like we've spent no time with the music I also feel relatively well prepared on it. Unlike the Magnificat last year. That was kind of dire (although I guess not too dire since we did win an award -- or was that for the spring concert?)

But over all with the December-type stuff, I haven't listened to any CDs -- not even the Christmas Survival Guide which is my favorite -- I haven't watched any horribly cheesy made-for-tv movies (holiday based guilty pleasure #1) and I haven't broken out any of the Regency romance novellas (holiday based guilty pleasure #2 -- what can I say, I like being emotionally manipulated around Christmas). What am I doing with myself?

Cause I know we used them all the time

I just had to show a co-worker how to use a triple-beam balance to weigh a sample from a shell midden because it was too heavy for the electronic scale. She'd never seen one before. Is this another thing I was on the very tail end of its use in schools?

I've been doing some squee shaking off and on for the past couple of months

I don't think I have appropriately expressed my excitement over the Les Mis movie, so let me do that now.

I am so excited! The OBC recording was more or less the sountrack to my childhood (at least when in my Mom's car where it was that or the Mermaids soundtrack; in my Dad's car was the mix tap of Jimmy Buffet, Jim Croce and Natalie Cole where the tape cuts off halfway through Bad, Bad, Leroy Brown). I even distinctly have the memory of having the discussion with my mother one morning before Kindergarten that "Some songs are okay to sing along with Les Mis in the car, but it was inappropriate to sing those songs at school". Five/six year old me was possibly a little too attached to "Lovely Ladies," particularly the "Come on Captain ..." bit. Yeah.

Bleck

Well that was possibly my worst Thanksgiving ever. I was supposed to go to a friends house for a potluck (and bring glazed carrots) but I woke up with an awful sore throat and feeling generally achy. I figured getting everyone else sick was not an appropriate way to spend Thanksgiving, so I stayed home and alternated between sleeping and finishing up Avatar: the Last Air Bender (which I do agree gets very good by the end).

I'm glad that I had noticed, when I shipped [livejournal.com profile] slumber's package, that one of the Chinese restaurants was going to be open. I got myself some yummy soup. My father is definitely the care-giver one in our family since his reaction to me saying that I drove to get soup was "I sure we could have found someone to deliver to you in New Orleans" (they are currently in North Carolina). LOL.

My mother, on the other hand, managed to jinx me by asking if I was throwing up. I hadn't been up until that point, but about 45min after I hung up with then I went on a 3 hour long, every 15 min cycle of that. Fun times.

Passing out so early does mean that I am currently wide awake at 2:30 am and could totally hit up some crazy Black Friday sales if that were the kind of thing I did -- which it is so totally not. The most I'm going to do is go to JoAnn's this afternoon (after everyone else crashes for the day) and pick up some cute fabric to make superhero cloaks for my little second cousins.

Oh, and while I am asking questions,

Does anyone know of a live stream for election coverage tonight? I no longer get real time television at my house.

IDK, this was a joke and then I think it turned real

I think I just got talked into trowing together a "Hipster Snow White" costume tonight. Thinking White shirt with blue tank over, yellow skirt (really a dress, see Quinn in the "Walking on Sunshine" number, and big red felt bow attached to a headband. Any thoughts on making this better?

The Quidditch One is Probably a Shoe-in

There is a person down the street from me who consistently goes all out with their Halloween display. Every time I go past, someone is taking pictures and since this Hogsmeade's theme is festival of the dead I thought I would join them with an eye toward making tags out of said pictures. So now I am here asking for your favorites.
